Tips for a Fun and Safe Halloween

TIPS FOR A (1)

Halloween is a very exciting time for kids. Can you blame them? They get to dress up like their favorite superheroes and villains and stay up late eating candy! Make this Halloween the best one yet with these tips for keeping your little ones safe and smiling.

  1. When you are planning your child’s costume, be sure that it is the right size to prevent tripping. If the costume includes a sword or knife, make sure that it is short and flexible with blunt edges.
  2. Keep in mind that your little ghost or goblin will be running around in the dark without much thought to cars and other people. Try adding reflectors to shoes, elbows, and hats that will be visible to vehicles. Pack lightweight flashlights in their buckets, too!
  3. Talk about general rules of safety during the days leading up to Halloween. Kids should know not to take unsealed candy and to bypass any dark houses if you aren’t with them. And remind them that just because it is a special day doesn’t mean they can cross the street without looking both ways!
  4. If you will be accepting trick-or-treaters at your home, clear the yard of any hoses or sneaky decorations that could trip someone. Kids are very skilled at tripping over their own feet, so take steps to light up the path leading to your door.
  5. Feed them a big, healthy meal before they embark on their adventure. It’s hard to control their sugar intake but it can’t hurt to try!
  6. Last but certainly not least, remember to document their smiles as much as possible on this very exciting day. #Halloween2014 #costumes
