Getting Your House Ready for Spring

SprngCleaning_blog

If you want to celebrate having made it through the winter, you can start by making some much needed adjustments to the interior and exterior of your house. After all, certain home improvements can help you enjoy your home more than ever this season. So if you are ready to make some changes for the better, check out these tips for preparing your property for spring.

Turn Your Attention to Linens and Furnishings

The spring is a great time to make some adjustments to furniture and linens that get heavily used. Your can start by flipping your mattress over, washing your pillows, and putting away heavy, thick blankets so you can bring out your lighter linens. At the same time, you can get rid of dust, odd smells, or stains by washing your curtains and putting your throw rugs outside for a bit to get some air.

Make Outdoor Improvements

Now that it is actually nice enough to spend some time outside, you should make it look nice so you can truly enjoy your front and backyard. Begin by sweeping any walkways and patios around your home, making sure to knock down dust, dirt, and cobwebs, too. Next, get out your paint to make touchups to the exterior walls of your home and any furniture you have outside. Replace any damaged or wet cushions, and fix or replace damaged or missing flooring, such as bricks, pavers, or concrete.

You should also pay attention to the health of your plants and trees by pruning and trimming when necessary. If you have a green thumb, now is the time to plant some perennials, such as the Gaillardia Fanfare. Before you plant anything, though, check to make sure your hose, sprinklers, or drip system works properly.

Take Care of Home Maintenance Needs

This season is the perfect time to install new air filters for your air conditioner and new light bulbs for any fixtures around the house. You should check your cooling system now to make sure it is ready for use in the coming months, since it will be cheaper to fix in the spring than in the summer. In addition, you should test out any alarms in your home, especially the fire alarm, and add new batteries as needed.

Of course, you can also start some of your spring cleaning chores now, such as dusting off ceiling fans and cleaning out your fireplace. But then you have all spring to finish these household chores! So make sure you carve out some time in your schedule to just enjoy the pleasant weather while it lasts, preferably in your newly improved yard.
