When you think of McCormick & Company, the chef in all of us may begin thinking about our favorite cooking spices. Now, thanks to the implementation of a few best practices, we can add net-zero energy use to that list.
McCormick & Company and Constellation Energy, a business unit of Exelon, announced today that McCormick has been operating its 363,000 square-foot distribution center in Belcamp, Md. as a net-zero facility for more than a year. A net-zero energy building is one that generates as much as or more energy than it consumes from the grid through an on-site renewable energy source.
At McCormick’s Belcamp facility, this was achieved through a combination of energy conservation measures and the installation of a 1.8-megawatt rooftop solar power system from Constellation Energy in 2011.
