For years, we’ve taken great pride in the fact that we are able to help businesses nationwide improve their sustainability efforts. Whether the businesses that we serve need renewable energy supply, demand side management services, greenhouse gas emission reduction services, on-site energy supply, energy infrastructure, or upgrades/retrofits, we offer a green—and sustainable—solution.
For example, below I’ve put together a short list of many projects that we’ve helped implement across the country recently:
- Energy efficiency is especially important to large water and wastewater utilities that serve residents spanning thousands of miles. We worked with Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), which serves more than 1.8 million residents living in Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, to save more than 6 million kWh in energy savings annually and an estimated $700,000 in annual operating costs.
- According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the information and communication technology sector is emitting greenhouse gases three times faster than any other part of the economy. Datapipe, a leading provider of managed hosting and IT services, purchased Green-e Energy certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) through Constellation NewEnergy’s NewMix Wind energy solution to match electricity consumption at its Somerset One Data Center in New Jersey. Matching RECs to the electricity serving that one facility alone results in an estimated initial reduction of more than 9.5 million pounds of carbon emissions. The company is replicating this program at its recently opened Somerset Three Data Center.
- Last January we launched our EcoStar Grant Program for nonprofit organizations to receive awards up to $5,000 to fund community-based environmental stewardship projects.
- With approximately 35 megawatts of on-site solar projects completed or under development, our new 4.4 megawatt solar installation under development at Denver International Airport is the largest customer-sited solar photovoltaic installation in Colorado. The electricity that will be generated by the new solar system is equivalent to more than 5,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
